Prevent Youth Violence
On September 9th, the Fayetteville Police Department will launch a nine-week, mentor-based program geared toward preventing youth violence. Journey: A Youth Against Violence Program is open to all youth aged 12-19 in the Fayette County area. There is no cost to participants.
Participants will meet at Fayetteville Police Headquarters on Saturdays at 10 a.m. and work through issues including youth crime, laws relating to drugs, theft, and gangs, overcoming trauma, handling negative thoughts, conflict resolution, goal setting, giving back to the community, and more. Lunch will be provided.
“Our officers have been planning this program for months, and we are excited for September 9,” said Police Chief Scott Gray. “This new community-driven program will allow for early crime intervention and prevention, as well as aiding our youth in gaining skills and knowledge that will provide a strong foundation rooted in morals, goals, and community action.”
